In a statement, NPR President Jarl Mohn called Roberts one of the network's "founding mothers" and described her as "the trusted voice that Americans count on when political news breaks". The Washington Post recounts her life fully here.

In a 2017 interview with Kentucky Educational Television, Roberts reflected on her long career. Through them, Cokie got a front-row seat to politics. Cokie was literally named a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress in 2008. I respect you guys a lot, you people a lot.

"We are deeply saddened that Cokie Roberts is no longer with us", former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush said in a joint statement. She became a friend.

Hailing his colleague as "a true pioneer for women in journalism", ABC News president James Goldston said in a statement, "Cokie Roberts will be dearly missed".

Roberts' father, former Democratic House majority leader Hale Boggs, died in a plane crash in Alaska in 1972. His seat was filled by Roberts' mother, Lindy Boggs, who was named USA ambassador to the Holy See in 1997.

Roberts split her time between Louisiana and Washington as a child and attended Wellesley College in MA. She won every major award in journalism and was recognized with over 30 honorary degrees.

Roberts began her career at CBS, moving next to National Public Radio and then ABC, where she helped set the tone of American political coverage during a period when few women claimed ranking positions in its newsrooms.

"She really knew her homework and was quite irreverent as well", Sajet says, adding that Roberts "looked at history at a 90-foot height and can fill in the history with all these interesting details". She served as NPR's congressional correspondent for more than 10 years. She also served as a congressional correspondent and frequent contributor to "The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour", our predecessor.

She was also known for not mincing words when it mattered. "Cokie represented the durable, ongoing Washington that is a custodian of the manners of the city and the sociability of the city that makes it really function".

Another parent charged in college admissions scandal
Janke's illicit work of fiction described Sui's son as a "top player for two private soccer clubs in Canada", the feds said. Prosecutors did not explain why Sui was not part of the original group of parents charged in March.

Cokie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 but continued her work in journalism.

Roberts was inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.

Roberts wrote several books, focusing on the role of women in history.

After leaving as "This Week" host, she settled into a role as analyst and commentator at both news organizations.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, they wrote a column calling on the "rational wing" of the Republican Party to stop then-candidate Donald Trump from becoming its nominee for president.

Cokie Roberts' husband, Steven Roberts, is a journalist too.

Our thoughts are with the Roberts family during this hard time.

"I have always felt semi-guilty about it". And it gave her time to spend with her mother outside of Sunday dinner.
