Microsoft hikes dividend, launches $40B buyback

Microsoft has announced some financial reshuffling. Redmond's board of directors has revealed the company's quarterly dividend increase.

Flush with cash and an infrequent acquirer of large technology companies, Microsoft has been a massive buyer of its own shares since the early 2000s and generally has an active $40 billion buyback plan that gets replaced once expended.

Microsoft declared a quarterly dividend of 51 cents a share, up from 46 cents previously, payable to shareholders of record on November 21. The dividend is payable December 12, 2019, to shareholders of record on November 21, 2019.
