Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will develop a new "Star Wars" movie for Lucasfilm.

According to THR, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has enlisted Feige to develop a new "Star Wars" film that will hopefully breathe new life into the franchise that began in George Lucas' 1977 classic.

"Kathy is pursuing a new era in "Star Wars" storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work. together". Others claim this is just a passion project, and may not extend further.

Feige isn't the first big name in producing that Lucasfilm has tapped to join the Star Wars universe.

THR notes that Kennedy remains in charge at Lucasfilm with no plans for that to change, although her current contract with Disney is up for renewal in 2021. Because of this, there has always been a question about whether or not he would ever actually take active involvement in the making of a Star Wars movie - and it seems today we have an answer. One top Disney insider claims Kevin Feige already has an actor in mind for a specific role when he makes the movie, and has already reached out to this unidentified individual. The rumors first surfaced previous year, in the wake of The Last Jedi "backlash" (it's a genuinely good movie, folks!) and production troubles on Rogue One and Solo, two films that saw their directors replaced in the midst of filming.

In addition to the new "Star Wars" film, Feige will oversee Marvel's upcoming host of movies and television shows featuring popular "Avengers" characters, as well as new Marvel franchises acquired by Disney in its purchase of 21st Century Fox, including the popular "X-Men". And even Disney CEO Bob Iger recently acknowledged in his memoir that his company did Star Wars at a rate that was considered "too much, too fast".

Marvel has flourished under Feige's reign, with Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest grossing film of all time.

It's now unclear when Feige's Star Wars film would debut.

The next Star Wars movie, J.J. Abrams' Rise of Skywalker, is now set to hit theaters on December 20.
