Back in July, Munchettyreferenced tweets the U.S. president had written in response to four Democratic congresswomen who spoke out against his immigration policies.

Naga Munchetty, the BBC Breakfast presenter, has been reprimanded for suggesting that Donald Trump was racist when he told four US Congresswomen to "go back" to where they came from. They are all United States citizens of ethnic minority backgrounds and three were born in America. BBC Breakfast is filmed at MediaCityUK in Manchester.

Responding to questions from co-presenter Dan Walker on the programme, Munchetty said: "Every time I've been told as a woman of colour to "go home", to "go back to where I've come from", that was embedded in racism".

"Now, I'm not accusing anyone of anything here, but you know what certain phrases mean". "Absolutely furious, and I can imagine lots of people in this country will be feeling absolutely furious a man in that position thinks it's OK to skirt the lines by using language like that". "Rules are rules but I don't want a world where we can't call this stuff out".

American Asylum Pact with Honduras Seals 'Northern Triangle'
Correspondents say all three agreements remain in a complex process of legal challenges and parliamentary ratification procedures. They have also said the countries do not have the capacity in their asylum systems to take on the migrants' claims.

A BBC spokeswoman said the complaints unit "ruled that while Ms Munchetty was entitled to give a personal response to the phrase "go back to your own country" as it was rooted in her own experience, overall her comments went beyond what the guidelines allow for".

The ECU found Munchetty's assertion that Mr Trump's comments were "embedded in racism" went beyond what the BBC allows and upheld a complaint made about the presenter's comments.

At the time, Naga was praised by viewers for her comments.

The complaints unit concluded that the "persistent and personal nature of the criticism risked leaving her open to the charge that she had failed to be even-handed".
