  • Turkey US citizen Daesh terrorist repatriated

Turkey has criticised Western countries for refusing to repatriate their citizens who left to join the militant Islamic State group (IS) in Syria and Iraq, and stripping some of them of their citizenship.

Interior Ministry's spokesman Ismail Catakli also said on Monday that seven German nationals would be returned on November 14.

Turkey has repatriated one Daesh/ISIS terrorist from the USA and this week will deport several more terrorists back to Germany, the country's Interior Ministry said on Monday.

"One American foreign terrorist fighter was deported from Turkey after completing the procedures", he said.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said there are 1,201 ISIS prisoners in Turkish jails. It has vowed to send back IS militants - even if their citizenships have been revoked.

On October 9, Turkey launched a military operation across its border into northeast Syria, securing control of a large swath of territory in the region.

Turkey aims to repatriate around 2,500 militants, the majority of whom will be sent to European Union nations, state broadcaster TRT Haber said, adding there were now 813 jihadists at 12 deportation centres in the country.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), seen as a "terrorist group" by Ankara over its ties with outlawed Kurdish fighters on its soil, is the main element of the SDF, which was a leading U.S. ally in beating back ISIL in the region.

Turkey's move to transfer ISIL's foreign fighters comes amid Turkish frustration with Western nations that have refused to back Ankara's offensive against the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

It has repeatedly called on European countries, including France, to take back their citizens fighting for the jihadists.

Europeans comprise a fifth of the around 10,000 ISIL members held captive in Syria. Denmark, Germany and Britain have so far revoked some citizenships.

Turkey has so far deported 7,500 Daesh/ISIS members, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last week, adding that there are now 1,149 Daesh/ISIS terrorists in Turkish prisons.

The legal proceedings for the two Irish national terrorists caught in Syria were about to end and they would also be repatriated soon, he added.
