Celtics’ Jayson Tatum speaks out on Gordon Hayward’s injury

Hopefully we will find out someday, but probably not for the next couple of months after his agent told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that Hayward will have surgery on his non-shooting hand to fix a broken bone.

There will be no official timeline for recovery until after the surgery, but after going under the knife Hayward is likely out at least six weeks. He played just under 15 minutes before the incident, which occurred when Hayward was guarding Dejounte Murray and he ran into Aldridge just outside the paint with 1:34 left before the half. Hayward tried to follow him, but his path was blocked by LaMarcus Aldridge, who stepped in with an illegal screen. After the collision, Hayward immediately grabbed his hand and made his way off the floor and to the locker room.

Hayward did not come out to the floor with the rest of the team after halftime, and the team announced that an X-ray during the break revealed the fracture.

It appears Gordon Hayward will undergo surgery on his broken hand.

The nine-year veteran has been excellent to start the season, averaging 18.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in eight games this season for the Celtics, while shooting 55.5% overall and 43.3% from 3-point range.
