Farage pulls back from challenging Tories in more than 300 seats

Although the Conservatives are hoping to seize traditional Labour seats in northern England that are heavily pro-Brexit, analysts had said Farage posed a bigger threat to the Conservatives than to Labour.

But the Brexit Party has still been found by the British Election Study to draw the majority of its support - 72% - from ex-Tory voters, and only 17% from former Labour voters.

Still the good news from a Brexit point of view is that Farage may possibly have leveraged what remained of his political capital into pushing Boris Johnson's Conservatives into a more solid Brexit - "a super plus Canada deal" - than they might otherwise have negotiated.

Commenting on the news, Labour chair Ian Lavery said: "This is a Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson alliance with Donald Trump to sell out our country and send £500m per week from our NHS to USA drugs companies".

Farage said he had considered the consequences of fielding 600 candidates and thought it would create a hung parliament.

Given the state of the polls, with the Conservatives ahead and the Brexit Party suffering a decline, the Government would expect to hold nearly all these constituencies anyway.

Farage's decision could help them keep the most marginal of these seats.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson was quick to respond on Twitter.

Speaking to investment analysts, Barrenechea said it will likely take around 18 months to fully integrate the company into OpenText .

"We will concentrate our total effort into all the seats that are held by the Labour party, who have completely broken their manifesto pledge in 2017 to respect the result of the referendum, and we will also take on the rest of the remainer parties".

It was pointed out by Guardian writer Martin Belam, who said: "I'm just wondering if anybody at the Brexit Party HQ is regretting their decision to make the main feature of their website a 10 point demolition of the Boris Johnson deal that Nigel Farage has today backed?" "We urge voters to reject this Thatcherite 1980s tribute act, which would lead to more savage Tory attacks on working class communities".

Nigel said he was personally prepared to fight 600 seats and Eddie pointed out he wasn't personally prepared to fight one, after he chose not to stand, to which he said he was prepared to lead 600 seats.

"Our NHS (National Health Service) is not for sale".

"I'm glad that there's a recognition that there's only one way to get Brexit done and that's to vote for the Conservatives", he told reporters on the campaign trail in Wolverhampton.

But he said he had changed his mind after the Prime Minister announced that he would not seek to extend the post-Brexit transition period, which is due to run out at the end of 2020. Polls suggest the Tories would hold on to many of their seats but need to win key Labour targets to gain a majority.

That election saw the Tories win Walsall North for the first time in almost four decades, when Eddie Hughes took the seat with a majority of 2,601.
