Former US President Jimmy Carter, 95, has been admitted to hospital in Atlanta for a procedure to relieve brain pressure.

Carter said earlier this year he hoped "there's an age limit" to holding the highest elected office in the United States.

Carter had to get stitches above his brow after falling at his ranch house in rural Plains, Georgia, on October 6.
