L'armée israélienne a indiqué avoir frappé mardi le domicile dans la bande de Gaza d'un commandant militaire de l'organisation du Djihad islamique, le groupe armé palestinien annonçant ultérieurement la mort de ce dernier.

Les sirènes d'alarme ont été activées dans de nombreuses villes israéliennes à proximité de Gaza jusque dans la métropole économique Tel-Aviv, où les écoles et les universités ont été fermées en raison des tirs. Deux projectiles ont touché à l'aube la maison d'Akram A., tuant "son fils Maaz et une autre personne", a indiqué Sana. Et les mosquées locales ont annoncé sa mort.

Israël accuse Ata d'avoir été derrière un récent tir de roquette depuis la bande de Gaza en territoire israélien, l'armée israélienne le décrivant comme une " bombe à retardement " dans le communiqué annonçant la frappe. L'enclave palestinienne de deux millions d'habitants est sous contrôle depuis plus de dix ans d'un autre mouvement islamiste, le Hamas, et sous blocus israélien. De son côté, le porte-parole de l'armée israélienne, Jonathan Conricus, a déclaré qu'il y a eu "un nombre important de tirs vers Israël", ajoutant ne pas être en mesure de confirmer que ces roquettes avaient bien été lancées par le Jihad islamique.

Le Jihad islamique a confirmé la frappe à Damas.

Ces affrontements contrastent avec le calme relatif qui régnait ces dernières semaines le long de la barrière entre Gaza et Israël.
