  • Woody Allen, Amazon Studios settle breach of contract lawsuit

Woody Allen has reached a settlement with Amazon Studios in his $68 million (£53 million) lawsuit over an abandoned film deal.

Amazon shelved the liberate of "A Rainy Day in New York" in 2018, after which cancelled a deal for three extra movies.

Attorney Robert Klieger told U.S. District Judge Denise Cote in April that Allen, 83, breached his contract when he made "public comments that at a minimum were insensitive to the #MeToo movement".

In a suit filed in federal court in NY in February, Allen claimed he was owed between $68 million and $73 million in minimum guarantee payments. At the time, Amazon cited Allen's "controversial feedback" in regards to the Weinstein scandal.

Months after these initial comments, Allen accused Dylan Farrow of "cynically using the #MeToo movement" after she repeated allegations that he assaulted her when she was seven years old.

"Scores of actors and actresses expressed profound regret for having worked with Allen in the past, and many declared publicly that they would never work with him in the future", Amazon's attorneys said.

His company, Gravier Productions, secured an worldwide release for "A Rainy Day in New York" this year, but USA distribution has not been secured.

Klieger said that Allen's remarks hurt the project, which starred Timothée Chalamet, Selena Gomez, Elle Fanning, Jude Law and Rebecca Hall, and made the film too hard to promote.
