Christian Serratos Is Playing Selena in Netflix 'Selena: The Series'

Late a year ago, Netflix announced plans for a scripted series about the life of Selena Quintanilla and her rise to fame.

Selena Quintanilla is an icon in the music industry.

On Tuesday, the streaming service released the first trailer for the upcoming "Selena: The Series", which will star Christian Serratos as the late Selena Quintanilla, one of the most celebrated Mexican American singers of her time. An accompanying photo (below) shows her in profile, applying red lipstick.

TV Line reported that the cast has been rounded out with Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla, her father and manager; Gabriel Chavarria as the singer's oldest brother, A.B. Quintanilla; Noemi Gonzalez as her sister Suzette Quintanilla; Seidy Lopez as their mother Marcella Quintanilla; and newcomer Madison Taylor Baez as young Selena.

The series will be split into two parts, with the first half comprising six hour-long episodes. In the '90s hit biopic, Selena, Jennifer Lopez, also took on the role, and it truly defined her career moving forward.

Christian Serratos will play Selena Quintanilla, the Tejano music legend whose rise to fame and untimely death continues to keep fans enraptured.

"Selena is an inspirational figure who's transcended generations", said Jaime Davila, president of the production company Campanario Entertainment.

On Nov. 12, while everyone was trying to get Disney+ to work, Netflix dropped a one-minute mini teaser for Selena: The Series. "Our casting director, Carla Hool, and her team have found an awesome cast to depict the Quintanilla family, and we're sure fans everywhere will be captivated yet again by Selena's incredible life".
