Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe 'left $10m but no will'

This comes after the death of the former leader who died in Singapore on September 6 this year after battling prostate cancer for at least 13 years.

The report says there appears to be no will, though lawyers are still looking for one.

Mugabe's family noted they were unable to locate a will that will guide it on how to share the politician's wealth.

"In this regard, perhaps the estate may be treated as intestate for now", reads the letter.

The Herald said no will had been found and a meeting has been scheduled for Thursday to appoint an executor to settle the estate.

The ex-president's daughter, Bona Chikowore, wrote to the Master of High Court in October, listing her father's estate as including $10m in a local bank, four houses in Harare in addition to his rural home, an orchard and a farm, the Herald reported.

State newspaper Herald said his daughter, Bona Chikore, disclosed the assets to the Superior Court after the family could not locate his will.

The Zimbabwe National Army instigated an overthrow of Mugabe's regime by placing him under house arrest for the crimes committed by individuals in his circle. He subsequently chose the former.

He was replaced by his former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom Mugabe had fired weeks earlier before his ousting.

Zimbabweans have speculated for years about Mugabe's wealth, with many assuming that he and his family amassed a vast fortune - perhaps as much as $1 billion, according to a leaked USA cable from 2001 - during his 37 years in power.

Born in 1924 to a poor family in Kutama, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Robert Mugabe or "Uncle Bob", as many Africans like to call him, started as a schoolteacher following successful completion of an undergraduate degree at the University of Fort Hare. He ruled Zimbabwe for close to four decades.
