  • Dallas Stars fire Jim Montgomery for 'unprofessional conduct'

The Dallas Stars have fired second-year coach Jim Montgomery for what the team says was unprofessional conduct.

Joining Bowness' staff is Derek Laxdal, who was serving as head coach of the Texas Stars, who promoted Neil Graham to head coach.

The Stars put out a statement announcing the dismissal of Montgomery, 50, as head coach "effective immediately" because of alleged conduct that went against the organization's "core values", Nill said.

On Nov. 29, Bill Peters resigned as Calgary Flames head coach amid allegations of racial slurs and physical abuse of players in previous jobs.

The decision comes shortly after NHL commissioner Gary Bettman revealed plans to combat personnel conduct issues, which have come pouring out of the league via personal stories from current and former players, while speaking at the first day of the Board of Governors meeting.

Juice WRLD "swallowed several Percocet pills" before suffering seizure, report claims
According to police, people on the plane said that the late rapper had "popped several pills" prior to suffering seizures. Juice was rushed to the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill. where he was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m.

Bettman also made it clear there would be zero tolerance from the league moving forward. "There will be zero tolerance for any failure to notify us and in the event of such failure, the club and individuals involved can expect severe discipline".

However, The Athletic reports that Montgomery's dismissal doesn't have anything to do with Bettman's new policy, which will require National Hockey League personnel to attend mandatory counseling regarding racism and anti-bullying. Very few details of Montgomery's misconduct were reported before or at the time of his firing, making some wonder if the Stars heard Bettman's comments on Monday night and elected to get out ahead of something.

Montgomery is the latest coach to be caught up in controversy in the National Hockey League.

Dallas had compiled a 43-32-7 record under Montgomery, who was hired as the Stars' head coach in May 2018.
