  • Pelosi will send impeachment articles to Senate next week

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wrote in a letter to her caucus on Friday that she's preparing to send the impeachment articles to the Senate next week to start the impeachment trial of Presidnet Donald Trump.

In December, the House voted to officially impeach President Trump- making him the third president ever in USA history to be impeached, following Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton.

Asked whether she thought the Senate trial would be "fair", she said no.

Democrats say the Clinton comparison does not apply to Trump.

Before Friday's announcement, Pelosi had continuously insisted that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., first outline the framework for a Senate trial.

Fed's Clarida sounds upbeat note on economic outlook
Some repo operations may be needed at least through April, when tax payments could drain the level of reserves, Clarida said. Even so, "we do think that policy is appropriate, and, under our baseline outlook, will continue to be appropriate".

A two-thirds majority of senators voting to convict Trump on either article would result in his removal from office, although that is considered a long shot given the Republicans' firm control of the Senate. He says he has enough votes from his fellow Republicans to begin the proceedings without a commitment to call witnesses. She also pointed out that some Republican senators said they would vote to dismiss the charges outright without having a trial, which she claimed equates to a cover-up. Pelosi to transmit the articles of impeachment, saying that is what the founders intended.

Asked whether he'd support former National Security Adviser John Bolton testifying, Trump said that would be up to the Senate, but that he had concerns about protecting presidential privilege.

To review, President Trump withheld about $400 million in military aid to Ukraine until its government promised to start a fake investigation into the Biden family. One question likely to factor into his thinking is whether vulnerable Republicans might find a vote to dismiss the charges easier to defend than a vote for acquittal after a trial (which even if it involved no additional testimony would remind voters of all the evidence gathered by the House inquiry, now several months in the past). "Every single one of us, in this Senate, will have to have to take a stand". Even some Democratic senators have said it is time. Many of those officials have defied congressional subpoenas for their testimony. In addition to the big conflict of interest here, and the fact that he lies pretty much every time he opens his mouth, Trump is probably the most nakedly selfish person ever to occupy the White House (and that is saying a lot).

She gave no indication of what date the vote would occur and told her Democratic lawmakers in a note to them that she would consult them on next steps at their weekly party meeting on Tuesday.

President Trump said on Thursday that he would like to see witnesses testify at his impeachment trial in the Senate - the whistleblower, the Bidens and "shifty Schiff". Pelosi is expected to ensure the managers are diverse in gender and race, and also geographically.
