The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has said as of Monday its members will stop supervising extra-curricular activities and taking part in field trips.

Public elementary and high schools will be closed for a one-day teacher strike next week.

Students should be in class. The union says staff at other boards across the province will hold information pickets in front of schools and at MPPs' offices.

Parents of elementary school students with the Rainbow Board are asked to call their child's school to inform them if their student will not be attending classes January 15.

Teachers at certain elementary and secondary schools within the Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario and the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-Est will also walk off the job, the union said.

On Jan. 15 teachers in the Bluewater District School Board, which includes Meaford and Thornbury, as well as some others in Ontario will be picketing for the day.
