  • Passenger Hurts United Airlines Attendant Injures 6 Officers Police

A NY man was arrested for assaulting a flight attendant and responding officers.

When the plane stopped and the door was opened, 28-year-old Matthew Dingley, of NY, charged at Port Authority officers.

A passenger on the United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Newark told NBC that it started when Dingley sprinted at the cockpit and began to pound on the door.

When a flight attendant tried to calm him down, he allegedly attacked her, and later stormed at law enforcement officials.

The airline declined to offer any details about the alleged encounter between Dingley and the flight attendant, but it confirmed that the flight did have trouble with a "disruptive passenger".

A little before 9 p.m., Port Authority Police responded to the flight when it arrived at Newark Airport.

A NY man was charged for allegedly assaulting a crew member and responding officers on a flight to New Jersey, CNN reported on Monday morning.

Scott Ladd, a spokesman for the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, told CNN that the man allegedly charged at the officers, who fell down the stairs.

Other officers helped arrest Dingley, who faces charges including aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and interfering with transportation, News 12 New Jersey reported.

Egbert added that a passenger on the plane appeared to have some law enforcement training and was allegedly able to subdue Dingley.

"Our primary concern is always to ensure the safety of all customers and crew and we are cooperating with authorities", CommutAir told ABC News on Sunday. The incident took place on United Express Flight 4965. "We express our gratitude for the quick reaction of our passengers, crew and police officers who responded during this incident".

As reported by NJ.com, the suspect was placed in the Essex County Correctional Facility after he was charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, and interfering with transportation.

NBC reports Dingley has had encounters with the law in the past, citing a police chase in North Carolina that led to his arrest in 2016 and a DWI conviction in NY in 2017. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
