In a new lawsuit filed by Virgin Islands Attorney-General Denise N. George, Jeffrey Epstein and his associates were abusing women and underaged girls on his private Caribbean Little St. James island less than two years before his untimely death.
Wednesday's suit says that air traffic controllers in the Virgin Islands saw Epstein leave his private plane with girls who looked 11 years old in 2018.
In a press conference on Wednesday, U.S. Virgin Islands Attorney General Denise George said the lawsuit was separate from the several brought against Epstein's estate by individual victims.
Epstein, who killed himself last summer in a high-security NY jail while awaiting trial for sex crimes, raped and held captive dozens of women on Little Saint James island, according to the civil action.
"Epstein clearly used the Virgin Islands and his residence in the US Virgin Islands at Little Saint James as a way to be able to hide and to be able to expand his activity here", US Virgin Islands prosecutor Denise N George says in the suit.
In early July this year multi-millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges involving dozens of underage girls, some as young as 14.
"Epstein maintained a deliberately complex web of Virgin Islands corporations, limited liability companies, foundations, and other entities, not all of which are yet known to the Government of the Virgin Islands", the lawsuit says.
He arranged to meet the law-enforcement officials at his office on the island of St. Thomas, the lawsuit says.
Late last month, a woman who claims she was just 14 when she had a sexual encounter with Epstein at his mansion in Florida sued for coercion, inflicting emotional distress and battery. The disgraced financier bought the island in 2016 for $18 million. Those victims were then forced to recruit others.
It seeks civil penalties plus some assets from Mr Epstein's estimated $US577.7 million ($835.4 million) estate, including the forfeiture of his two private islands, Little St James and Great St James.
He even kept a computer database to track where the women and girls were and who was available, the Times reported.
Epstein allegedly took advantage of his secluded residence in the Virgin Islands so "Epstein and his associates could avoid detection of their illegal activity from Virgin Islands and federal law enforcement and prevent these young women and underage girls from leaving freely and escaping the abuse".
One of the victims, according to the suit, attempted to escape Epstein's island by swimming away after she was forced into sex acts with one of Epstein's co-conspirators, according to The Times.
Epstein, who died in prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial for abuse dating back to 2005, is alleged to have trafficked girls as recently as 2018.
