He told her he'd be able to get her a better seat.
Ashley Barno says she received the texts from an American employee named "Ahmad", who not only texted her while she was waiting for a flight at San Diego International Airport but again when she boarded the plane to Chicago. The crew member reportedly became "furious" with the man's behavior, and confirmed that "Ahmad" worked for the airline. I really like you! Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning. "Ahmad", meanwhile, remained determined to communicate with her. Later, Barno says he told her he got her phone number from a tag on her luggage. When Barno asks him to come say hi, he says he can't find her anymore. You can think about it!" he allegedly wrote, adding in later messages, "Just looking for one chance to prove my self [sic]! She is seeking damages for claims of negligent hiring and supervision, sexual harassment, stalking and causing emotional distress.
"American Airlines did not do a sufficient job in hiring and supervising employees to keep its customers safe from sexual harassment and stalking", it adds.
"American Airlines takes the privacy and safety of our customers seriously", American Airlines spokesperson Ree Maki told USA TODAY in a statement. We investigated the allegations and took appropriate action. Barno complained to the airline and asked for updates on the incident, but received no reply.
The employee was not on duty at the time of the incident.
According to the lawsuit Barno has now filed, she called the airline multiple times but they never took action.
Ashley told NBC San Diego: 'The whole time I kept asking him, 'Who are you?
The man then sent her a barrage of 10 messages, writing that "Friendship with me will be very beneficial for you!" "Are you going to Chicago too??" he texted after they boarded.
"Just knowing that he knew what I looked like, and that we were in an enclosed plane and that there's no way out, like really, really scared me", she told NBC 7.
Barno claims in the suit that she told the man to stop communicating with her, but he continued.
Ashley Barno says the employee, identified only as Ahmad, told her she was "gorgeous in her gray top" and explained he got her name, phone number and address from the information on her carry-on bag. Subsequently, "Ahmad" was escorted off the aircraft when it landed at Chicago O'Hare.
CNN reported that the unwanted text messages started in April from a man who told Barno his name was Ahmad. Calls to his number go to a Google voicemail, and the man has not responded to calls, Samo said. "How are you?" Barno replied that she was good but didn't recognize the number so she asked who the sender was. But the lawsuit alleges that the company "knew of its employee's propensity to inappropriately contact its customers yet continued to retain him as an employee".
"Defendant Doe made it clear that he wanted to have sexual contact with Plaintiff, and aggressively communicated with her to further his goal", the lawsuit alleges.
Because of the incidents, Barno had trouble sleeping, eating and socializing with her family and friends and had to seek professional help, the lawsuit alleges.
