The Homeless Street Cafe, an organisation that provides food and essential supplies to homeless people in the capital, shared the picture on Facebook this week.

A homeless man has been seriously injured while his tent was being removed during a clean-up along the Grand Canal in Dublin.

"This issue is beyond crisis". If I'm honest I find the older generation that use our service even more heartbreaking.

'It seems there is no time left for change for them, a dearth of hope really.

"It is a reflection of one of the things that's going wrong in a country where most things are going right and I'm determined to continue the work that we've done already if I'm re-elected as Taoiseach". "Without the help of all the volunteers who help the homeless, there would be a lot more people dying on our streets". It's just heartbreaking to see that photo'.

"And we wish that person every speedy recovery".

The post ended: 'Please vote with these people in mind on the 8th, the current government has failed miserably while claiming to be successful, time for radical change!'

And there are reports today that a young homeless woman died tragically in emergency accommodation.

"But we actually need to do something about it and it is at least a little bit reassuring to me that rough sleeping is down and that shows that housing first is working and that there are fewer homeless families and fewer homeless children than there this time previous year".

It is thought the man was injured when the tent he was sheltering in was moved by vehicle during works to clear the banks of the canal.

Beforehand, he said "incomes are rising and poverty is falling" but Sinn Féin's David Cullinane said that Varadkar's Fine Gael party had overseen "failures" in housing and health and public services.

Irish lawmakers are demanding answers after a homeless man was left with "life-changing" injuries after Dublin City Council reportedly used an industrial vehicle to try to remove his tent while he was sleeping inside.
