Future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady still might return to the only team he has known, but according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, it would be "extremely surprising" to see Brady sign a contract extension with the New England Patriots before National Football League free agency opens on March 18.

'I'm open-minded about the process, ' Brady said Sunday in his weekly interview with Westwood One radio.

While it seems impossible that the New England Patriots legend would ever play elsewhere, Patriots coach Bill Belichick was loathe to give any indication Brady would be back with the team when he met with media the day after the team's wild-card round game earlier this month. I am looking forward to what is ahead. "Whatever the future may bring, I will embrace it with open arms".

He made $23million this season after signing a contract extension last off-season that technically took him through the 2021 season. As one source told La Canfora, Brady will do his due diligence to assess all realistic possibilities, and it's only "human nature" for Brady to explore this chance to embrace his free-agent status for the first time in his career.

Tom Brady said he's "open-minded" about free agency. This is especially true considering the rumors that Brady is planning on hearing pitches from opposing teams this offseason.

The quarterback often has repeated his belief that he can play until he's 45.

It has also been rumored that the Raiders aren't completely sold on their current quarterback Derek Carr and may have their eyes set on Brady instead. He is now 42 years old.

All that said, even if Brady does indeed uproot his family and move out of the area - he and Bundchen own numerous properties around the country, and their Brookline, Mass., home remains on the market - that does not definitively mean Brady is moving on from the Patriots.

He failed to make the Pro Bowl for the first time since the 2008 season.
