  • Stefanos Tsitsipas urges own fans to show 'respect' after unruly behavior at opener

Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas has urged his own fans to be more respectful when attending his matches at the Australian Open.

Tsitsipas had three match points on Caruso's serve at 5-2 but could not convert any of them.

Sixth-ranked Tsitsipas has been touted as a potential victor at Melbourne Park where he had beaten Roger Federer in the fourth round amid a sensational run to the semi-finals past year.

He then issued a warning in his post-match press-conference.

"I hope they come with new chants", statedTsitsipas "I hear the same every single year". "I don't really know why they want to go the extra mile some of the time", he said of a group of 40 or so, nearly exclusively male, supporters who sang his praises throughout his three set victory over the Italian Salvatore Caruso.

"[That] attitude doesn't really belong in tennis", Tsitsipas said.

Not all opponents will understand what is going on with the chants he said.

At the website of his Grand Slam development, a semi-final run in Melbourne in 2015, Tsitsipas is now eager to comprehend one more chance to beam before an enthusiastic group at the initial significant champion of the year. It should stay in football, not in the tennis court. "That's all, nothing else", he said.

"I think here past year it was more of a surprise, more of a shock, no pressure at all". It was an excellent start for Tsitsipas as he seeks to better last year's semi-final showing.

In 2019, he beat Federer only to suffer a straight-sets beating against Nadal with a maiden grand slam final on the line.

But Tsitsipas said he was now a different player.

'I definitely feel like I'm more experienced now.

"I have great memories from here previous year", he said.

"Now I feel like I'm more mature". I also think what I feel now compared to before, I'm just very sure with myself.

"I think the Grand Slam tournaments are events where you try and bring the best out of you, when it comes to concentration when it comes to playing with energy, good footwork, being aggressive and being consistent point by point", Tsitsipas added.
