Federal authorities say they have arrested a Phoenix-area man suspected of killing two men while acting as a leader of al-Qaida in Iraq.

A man the Iraqi government says is an Al Qaeda leader has been arrested in Arizona, prosecutors said.

Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri, a 42-year-old Phoenix resident, is wanted to stand trial in Iraq on charges of the premeditated murder of two Iraqi police officers, according to a statement by Michael Bailey, the U.S. Attorney for Arizona, and Brian A. Benczkowski, Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Criminal Division.

A USA magistrate judge issued a warrant for him on Wednesday.

The statement noted the details in the Iraqi complaint were allegations that had yet to been proven in court.

Scottish parliament backs independence referendum
A majority are also against a referendum next year, even if the SNP win the Scottish parliament elections in May 2021. According to YouGov, the shift towards independence comes from Remainers in Scotland moving towards Yes.

Al-Nouri's extradition would have to be certified by the U.S. court and the U.S. Secretary of State would then decide whether to surrender him to Iraq, the statement said.

It is believed that some of the United States residents are linked to terrorist groups operating in Africa and the Middle East, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been announcing rewards to get information of such suspects.

An alleged Al Qaeda terrorist leader was arrested this week in Arizona. Mostafa was raised in San Diego, California and graduated from a college in his hometown.

"Ahmed and other members of the Al-Qaeda group allegedly shot and killed a first lieutenant in the Fallujah Police Directorate and a police officer in the Fallujah Police Directorate, on or about June 1, 2006, and October 3, 2006, respectively".
