  • Pastrnak gives Bruins OT win against Oilers

David Pastrnak scored the victor 1:14 into overtime as the Bruins continued their strong run of late with a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

Pastrnak scored on a breakaway between the pads of Mike Smith. Draisaitl leads the National Hockey League with 95 points in 59 games, making him the fastest player to hit that number since Sidney Crosby in 2006-07.

The Bruins counter with a powerhouse line of their own, Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Just a little breakaway, and I saw him try to poke-check so I made a decision to go five-hole there".

Boston (38-11-12), which leads the Atlantic Division, has won four in a row and is 10-1-0 in its past 11 games.

"Typically when we're at our best, it's a low-scoring game and we force the other team to stay in the game", Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "I give Edmonton a lot of credit, they've done that lately, they know they're light in their lineup, so good for the American League guys to come up and do that job".

Lionel Messi impressed with Ronaldo's Juve goalscoring streak

The Oilers (32-21-7) went 7 for 7 on the penalty kill and 1 for 6 on the power play. The Oilers were without McDavid (quad), Joakim Nygard (hand), Kris Russell (concussion), James Neal (foot) and Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) and they were also missing Zack Kassian due to a suspension.

"It's a valuable point for us, but what we want to learn from that game is we need some swagger early on", Gagner said. "We clawed our way to a point, and there is a lot to like about the last two periods and the way we played against a really good team. We'll take the point and keep pushing forward". And there wasn't much from a negative perspective to write about for the Edmonton players in a competitive game they could have easily won against Boston. "We played them in Boston (a 4-1 loss January 4) it was the same kind of hockey, and it was no surprise they played well, and ultimately we got the extra point". Rask stopped 28 of 29 shots, including making saves on those 18 shots in the second, including a couple of Oilers power plays. Standing in the high slot, he tipped a point shot by defenseman Ethan Bear. "Our group started to push a little bit. As a group we started poor, but we battled hard and got better as the game went on". "I felt like we were", Gagner said.

Bruins: Play at Calgary on Friday.

"We knew they have a lot of new faces because of the injuries, so we knew they were going to play tight and together".

"We got a power play goal late in the third that was huge for us and got some huge kills late in the game".

With 2:30 remaining, Pastrnak was sent off for tripping Edmonton's William Lagesson, but the Oilers couldn't find the go-ahead goal with the man advantage. Boston has four winning streaks of at least four games this season. Pastrnak has nine points (five goals, four assists) in his past six games.
