Trump 2020 Campaign Files Libel Lawsuit Over New York Times' Russia Report

  • Trump claims Dems leak Russia intel to hurt Sanders

The piece, written by former Times executive editor Max Frankel, argues that it was no coincidence that U.S. -Russia relations changed under Trump after Russian actors targeted Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.

"Among other things, there was no 'deal, ' and no 'quid pro quo, ' between the campaign or anyone affiliated with it, and Vladimir Putin or the Russian government", the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit relates to a March 27, 2019, article published by the Times. Mueller's full report would not be released to the public until weeks later, on April 18.

Trump was impeached for abusing the power of his office to cheat in the 2020 presidential election by withholding congressionally approved funds to Ukraine.

According to the lawsuit, the campaign sued to recover unspecified damages, publicly establish the truth, properly inform the newspaper's readers and the rest of the world and to seek appropriate remedies for the harm.

US President Donald Trump predicted on Monday that the Democratic Party leadership would prevent frontrunner Bernie Sanders from becoming its candidate in November elections. "Fortunately, the law protects the right of Americans to express their judgments and conclusions, especially about events of public importance", the statement read.

Bernie Sanders' surge to the front of the Democratic presidential contest has echoes of Donald Trump's improbable 2016 nomination, according to Republican strategists who tried and failed to stop the man who later won the presidency.

District Judge Indira Talwani also said Huffman must serve 12 months of supervised release and 250 hours of community service. Lelling's office said she did the same in 2019 for her younger daughter, wiring $25,000 and writing a $25,000 check.

In an escalation of the Republican president's long-running battle with the news media, campaign officials said the lawsuit was being filed in New York State Supreme Court, the state's trial-level court.

President Donald Trump said Democratic presidential front runner Bernie Sanders is advocating "totally unaffordable" policies that are "not going to work" during a meeting with business leaders Tuesday at the US embassy in New Delhi.

Sanders represents Vermont in the US Senate and has put forward an aggressive "green New Deal" plan to deal with climate change with a proposal to invest $16.3 trillion in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation, among other areas.

In the lawsuit, filed by Trump attorney Charles Harder, alleges that the Times' own reporting had already established that there was no "deal" with Putin, and that the Times acted with "extreme bias" by publishing the column.

Speaking to reporters as he left the White House for a trip to India, Trump said he had not been briefed on intelligence that Russian Federation was aiming to boost the campaign of Sanders, a US senator from Vermont, and he called for a probe into Schiff for the leak.

"If the law were any different, President Trump himself could be held liable for asserting that the Democrats colluded with Russian Federation", he said in a statement.

The lawsuit says the Times knew it was publishing false information when it published the essay in March 2019 in its Opinion section, "but did so for the intentional goal of hurting the campaign".
