Airline Jet2 has said it will not fly back any people who have been staying at the hotel until they have tested negative for the illness, or until the incubation period has passed.

A third person in the United Kingdom is diagnosed in Brighton and transferred to Guy's and St Thomas' in London.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) says the four newly diagnosed people had contracted the virus in France.

It is unclear whether this was "directly or indirectly" from someone who recently returned from overseas, England's chief medical officer said.

Those infected are all contacts of Mr Walsh and Public Health England (PHE) confirms two are healthcare workers.

A woman in London becomes the ninth person to test positive for the illness in the United Kingdom - the first confirmed case in the capital.

The total number of cases in England is now at 17, and the first case in Northern Ireland was confirmed on Thursday.

Efforts to trace those exposed to coronavirus patient
It is unclear how symptomatic the infected woman was on the plane and whether she was coughing and sneezing during the flight. While the World Health Organisation has said that the outbreak has reached a "decisive point" and has "pandemic potential".

A GP in Surrey is being taken to one of the NHS's six specialist centres for infectious diseases amid fears he is the latest British case of coronavirus, the Guardian has been told.

It is not yet known if his wife has also contracted the virus, which for the first time has claimed the life of a Briton - a passenger on the Diamond Princess cruise liner.

The Department of Health and Social Care said the virus was passed on in the United Kingdom but the original source was "unclear".

Confirming the latest United Kingdom case, Professor Chris Whitty said the patient, a resident of Surrey, in south-east England, has been transferred to a specialist NHS infection centre at Guy's and St Thomas' in London.

The patient in Belfast had recently returned from northern Italy and had previously been in Dublin.

Irish health chief Dr John Cuddihy said: "Each of the stages of this person's journey have been identified and all relevant contacts in all of those stages of transport have been contacted (and) traced".

Ministers have said they expect more cases to emerge.
