Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has cancelled the remaining rounds of the 2020 UAE Tour after two participants tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

It comes after two Italian participants on the UAE Tour were confirmed to have it.

Following the news from Abu Dhabi, the Danish track team made the decision to confine Morkov to his hotel room, where he would be tested, although he has shown no coronavirus symptoms.

The Council did not identity who had tested positive but said all race participants, including support staff, will be screed for the virus.

"I hope those affected make a speedy recovery and there aren't any further cases", he added.

A team spokesman said: 'He is in good spirits and doing fine, but he's exhausted of this situation that he has to be in the hotel'.

"I fall asleep like each evening and any individual knocked on my door in the midst of the evening and mentioned that the race is canceled", he mentioned.

Other people who also interacted with the two Italians on Yas island have been isolated at home, the agency said, citing the health department of Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital.
