Thousands of mainly young people joined the 17-year-old for a marchthrough the city of Bristol.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg (C) takes part in a "Youth Strike 4 Climate" protest in Bristol, south west England.

"Basically nothing is being done despite all the attractive words form our elected politicians".

They have arranged for 60 metres of festival barriers, more than 80 stewards and a safe zone for young children.

Meanwhile in Bristol, schoolkids skipped classed to join their idol Greta on another of her Fridays For Future strikes.

"But we must continue - and we have to be patient and remember that the changes required will not happen overnight."

"We are the change and change is coming whether you like it or not".

"This emergency is being completely ignored by the politicians, the media and those in power".

"So what did you do during this crucial time?"

Ahead of the march, local police had expressed concern that the popularity of the event could lead to risks to protesters.

"I will not stand aside and watch, I will not be silenced while the world is on fire, will you?"

Organisers said they were "honoured" to be welcoming Greta to Bristol for their 10th strike.

She received the honour, from Bristol University, for using her platform as a world-leading ornithologist to promote greater diversity in the wildlife and conservation sectors.

Avon and Somerset Police and Bristol City Council have warned of "major disruption" during the event, which is due to start at 11:00 GMT, but stressed they would be "working to ensure Bristol is open as usual".

Dr Patrick Hart, a GP and member of Doctors for Extinction Rebellion, said: "We're speaking out to raise the alarm on the impending health crisis".

She walked at the front of the crowds in the rain, behind a green banner which translated from Swedish as School Strike for Climate.
