Tony Romo Signs with CBS for Whopping $17 Million Per Season

The two sides struck a deal Friday. before ESPN got its chance to lure Romo, who is regarded as the NFL's best analyst, perhaps ever.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will remain as the network's No. 1 National Football League analyst with a contract that pays him $17 million per season, easily the largest deal for a game analyst in sports.

Tony Romo and CBS have agreed to a record-breaking broadcast contract, the New York Post reports.

Romo secured an $18 million AAV when he signed a six-year, $108 million contract extension with the Cowboys in 2013. The former Cowboys QB is very much a star after three seasons as the network's top game analyst working alongside Jim Nantz.

John Madden previously had the NFL's richest broadcasting deal at $8 million per year, which would be worth $14 million when adjusted for inflation. This means the total value for Romo's contract will surpass $100 million.

CBS was favored to retain Romo. Romo never played in a Super Bowl but will get to call his second one in three seasons next year.
