World Health Organization raises global virus risk to maximum level

The most recent data provided by the World Health Organization in a Situation Report published February 27, shows that, worldwide, there are now 82,294 confirmed cases of COVID-19-1,185 of which were diagnosed in the 24 hours preceding the report.

The UK confirmed its first cases of coronavirus in Wales and Northern Ireland, bringing the total to 19.

The new coronavirus has infected more than 83,000 people around the world.

The country has reported the highest number of deaths - 34 as of Friday - from the virus outside of China. He also explained that health officials are seeing "linked epidemics of COVID-19 in several countries", but noted that most cases can still be traced to known contacts or clusters of cases.

About three-fourths of all new infections are being reported in countries other than China.

A number of cases in Canada are linked to Iran, all of which have been confirmed in the past week.

"A Pandemic is a unique situation, in which all citizens on the planet will likely be exposed to a virus within a defined period of time", Michael Ryan, executive director of WHO Health Emergencies Program, said at a daily briefing. There are 4,351 cases across those countries and tens of thousands in China.
