French automaker Citroen has revealed the Ami - 100% electric vehicle for Europe that costs just about $6000 (around ₹ 4.76 lakh).

Passengers sit side-by-side in the heated compartment and under the panoramic roof.

We're talking a auto that measures just 7.9 feet in length, tops out at 28 mph, and has a 5.5-kilowatt-hour battery good for 43 miles of range and a full charge in three hours using a standard outlet. What also makes it special is that you can drive the Ami at a monthly subscription charge of $22 (about ₹ 1500), or rent one by the minute for as little as 0.26 Euros (around ₹ 20) via Free2Move car-sharing platform.

However, the Citroen Ami, is classified as a light quadricycle and can be driven by 16-year-olds as long as they have passed Compulsory Basic Training for riding a moped. The maximum speed of the Ami is just 45 km/hr. It can also be charged at one of the many public chargers that litter our cities. In fact, more than 50% of its upper body is glazed, so there will be no excuse for not being seen at those tricky priorite a driote roundabouts in Paris. This great idea was a concept one year ago. The side windows are also symmetrical for the simplest production possible.

Citroën is also offering customers the option to rent the auto long term, at a cost of €19.99 per month after an initial payment of €2,644.

European borders remain open, as Italian coronavirus outbreak kills 11 & infects HUNDREDS
Eleven towns, 10 in Lombardy and one in Veneto , remain under lockdown, with some 50,000 people affected by confinement measures. Italian travellers have been told they could face quarantine requests in some countries, and be asked to self-isolate in others.

For customers who want some degree of customization, the Ami can be had with Pop or Vibe styling packages.

In France, Citroen proposes encouraging deals to customers wishing to have a small environment-friendly vehicle.

Michel Costa, market research manager for the Citroen Ami project says: 'The common denominator among all future users will not be their gender, age, socio-professional category, place of residence or even less their level of education, but rather their need for mobility.

How much will it cost and when is it coming to the UK?

The new Ami EV is no different. That's the most conventional way. Alternatively, Citroen is willing to reduce the subscription to $11 a month and then 30 cents per minute as part of a auto sharing program managed via app. The vehicle costs a pint-sized €6,000 including Value-Added Tax or it can be purchased with just €2,644 down and a minuscule monthly payment of €19.99 for 4 years (both include VAT). And if you're really old school, you can buy one outright for €6000 (around £5000). This year, Citroen has come up with a new urban mobility solution accessible to everyone: compact, protective, 100% electric, without driving licence, and affordable. But there are no plans yet.
