According to health officials in Daegu, a 77 year-old male who had been receiving treatment for COVID-19 at a hospital in Daegu, died on Saturday morning.

The victim was hospitalized in Wuhan - the epicenter of the outbreak - on January 1 and died 28 days later.

The state government has banned South Korea nationals from entering the state in view of the Covid-19 spike in the north Asian nation.

In eastern Europe, Belarus and Lithuania reported their first cases.

"This new case indicates that there is evidence of community transmission but the extent is still not clear", said Sara Cody, director of public health for California's Santa Clara County, the heart of Silicon Valley where tech giants like Apple and Google are based.

The South Korea coronavirus outbreak continues to rage as officials report an additional 256 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 2,022.
