Health officials in California, Oregon and Washington state have confirmed three new coronavirus cases in which patients were infected by unknown means.

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday that 33 people in the state have tested positive for coronavirus.

Several of about 1,000 former passengers who tested virus-free and were allowed to get off the ship after a 14-day quarantine have since tested positive. Majority will be quarantined at home for 14 days and the school will be sanitized over the weekend and be closed on Monday. The infected person in OR worked at an elementary school.

Speaking about two of the cases, Dr. Chris Spitters, interim health officer for the Snohomish Health District, told reporters in Shoreline, Washington: "Those probably aren't the first two cases of person-to-person transmission in the U.S".

MA to date has only one confirmed case of COVID-2019, whose symptoms are much like the flu, and the risk for exposure in the commonwealth is considered low. The CDC has new test kits that can be ordered, which include the first two components.

State, county, and tribal health officials are monitoring people who may have come into contact with the disease or traveled to mainland China for symptoms like coughing or fever during the two weeks after they return, providing health education, and are prepared to link people with appropriate health care if symptoms develop.

There are now 65 cases of COVID-19 in the United States, the majority travel-related, but the most recent cases on the West Coast may be evidence of community spread, which means of unknown exposure, according to the CDC.

Gov. Kate Brown of OR said that she expects more cases and that her state may take more aggressive action if the outbreak gets more severe.

"We are going to the University of Santa Clara and, apparently, they have established plans that if the coronavirus spreads to our campus, we would all take online classes instead of going to the real classrooms", said student Madeline Bragg. Numerous workers at both hospitals have been tested, but the tests were sent to labs approved by the CDC and generally take three to four days to complete.

Still, "It's mostly a person-to-person transmission that we are concerned about for our communities", he added. Older people, especially those with chronic illnesses such as heart or lung disease, are especially vulnerable.

"Under this policy, we expect certain laboratories who develop validated tests for coronavirus would begin using them right away prior to FDA review", Jeff Shuren, the director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said in a statement.

Americans, Messonnier said, should start preparing for "significant disruption" to their lives. According to The Mercury News, the patient is 65.

Having people who are not sick occupying available hospital beds placed a burden on the health care system and limits critical access for patients in a time of great need. The origin of the virus isn't known.

In the meantime, Ghebreyesus said people should be sure to wash their hands and regularly clean surfaces with disinfectant.
