Teams are prohibited from resting healthy players for any high-profile, nationally televised game.

The NBA fined the Minnesota Timberwolves $25,000 for violating the league's player resting policy after they held out a healthy D'Angelo Russell against the Denver Nuggets on February 23, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star-Tribune.

The infraction happened when the Timberwolves got on the roadway to encounter the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, and also they relaxed guard D'Angelo Russell, that under the plan was taken into consideration a healthy and balanced gamer.

Minnesota Timberwolves subsequently released a statement accepting that the decision to not play D'Angelo Russell against Nuggets was a "planned rest" and that it was only made with the player's optimal condition in mind.

Timberwolves fined: Why was D'Angelo Russell rested?

"While we respect the guidelines and standards of the league, we are a player-centered organization that focuses on learning the bodies of our players". The Timberwolves win-loss record now stands at 17-40 as they occupy the 14th spot in the Western Conference. Most recently, his Timberwolves debut was pushed back a game earlier this month as he recovered from a right quad contusion.

The Timberwolves issued a statement of acceptance of the punishment that also spelled out their case for an exception to the rule.

Russell - acquired from the Golden State Warriors prior to the trade deadline - is averaging 23.7 points, 6.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game this season. He missed 15 games with Warriors due to a sprained thumb and a shoulder issue.
