Many other properties along the Strip and within the city remain open, though several, including Caesars Entertainment and The Venetian, have enacted special cleaning protocols to limit the spread of the coronavirus within the resorts and casinos.

Prominent Las Vegas resorts in the US state of Nevada announced they are closing down their properties temporarily amid worries about the rapidly spreading of coronavirus.

"Despite our commitment to dedicating additional resources for cleaning and promoting good health, while making hard decisions to close certain aspects of our operations, it is now apparent that this is a public health crisis that requires major collective action if we are to slow its progression", Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts, Jim Murran, stated in the official press release.

So far, Las Vegas Sands has said it's not closing its Las Vegas properties or considering laying off employees.

Wynn was previously hit by the spread of coronavirus in China as the casino operator was forced to suspend operations in Macau for two weeks.

The decision of Las Vegas resorts came after Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced Sunday the closure of schools statewide through early April. The firm added that it was "committed to pay all full-time Wynn and Encore employees during the closure".

"The closure will be effective Tuesday, March 17 at 6 pm [PT] and is expected to be in effect for two weeks, after which time the Company will evaluate the situation", a statement from the company said. The company won't be taking any new hotel reservations for arrivals prior to 1 May 2020.

The hotel industry took another blow Monday, as the Walt Disney Company announced it would temporarily shut down all Disney stores and hotels on Tuesday, including the locations at Disney Springs in Orlando and Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
