The suspensions came almost a week after the U.S. State Department advised against any travel on cruise ships, especially for those who have underlying health conditions.

A federal effort led by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response within the federal Department of Health and Human Services brought state residents on the Grand Princess cruise ship back home to Nebraska.

On March 13, 2020, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced that several major cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, and MSC, will voluntarily suspend sailing operations to and from US ports for 30 days due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic.

Several cruise ship passengers and crew members have arrived in South Florida as the 30 day suspension on cruise ship services goes into effect.

The Grand Princess had been docked off the coast of California after COVID-19 cases were identified on the ship.
