Kentucky Derby being pushed to the fall over coronavirus

The Derby has been postponed due to concerns regarding the outbreak of COVID-19.

The NBA, NHL and other major in-season sports have suspended play, and the NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments were cancelled.

Officials at Churchill Downs revealed Saturday that they were considering the "timing" of the showpiece and Baffert - who has saddled five winners in the "Run for the Roses" - said that the first leg of U.S. racing's Triple Crown could be pushed back from May 2 to later in the year.

Much speculation has stemmed from a weekend dispatch from Churchill including a statement that "the time-honored traditions of the Kentucky Derby are as much about the fans as the race itself".
