The Met Gala has been postponed

  • Vogue magazine’s longtime editor Anna Wintour announced her support for Joe Biden in his campaign to become the president of the United States

Not exactly shocking news, but now it's official- The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced today that the annual Met Gala, scheduled to take place on May 4th in NY, has been postponed indefinitely. The Cut's Matthew Schneier confirmed the news in a tweet, telling his followers that this year's Met Gala was "under review".

This year's exhibition, "About Time: Fashion and Duration", is sponsored by luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton. Much was expected from Gaga - and she stole the show in a billowing fuchsia gown by Brandon Maxwell, complete with huge train carried by a cohort of tuxedo-wearing, umbrella-wielding men.

The gala raises money for The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Exhibit and opens the institute's spring exhibition, which will also be delayed.

In response, the USA conducted strikes against pro-Iranian militia Kata'ib Hezbollah's weapons storage sites in Iraq. The Iraqi military said several Iraqi air defence servicemen were critically wounded.

According to Vogue Magazine, an internal email was sent to the staff announcing that the Met would remain close until 4 April and that in adherence to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention advice there would not be gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks. "In deference to this guidance, all programs and events through May 15 will be canceled or postponed", a museum spokesperson said in a statement. It not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times, serving as an especially sensitive and accurate timepiece.

Neither the museum nor Wintour provided any further details on when the event might be rescheduled. This year's topic, "About Time: Fashion and Duration", was chosen partially in celebration of the museum's 150th anniversary and surely would have inspired a few personal throwbacks, some pointed commentary on sustainability in the fashion industry, and probably at least one celebrity arm wrapped in a row of expensive watches.
