Lyle Waggoner, ‘Carol Burnett Show’ and ‘Wonder Woman’ star, dies at 84

Sources close to his family tell TMZ. the former actor died peacefully at his home Tuesday morning after a battling an illness. "The cause of death was cancer".

Some of his most famous characters were in The Old Folks skit and he also did many fake commercials and was an announcer for the show.

Carol Burnett is remembering the legacy of her late costar Lyle Waggoner. But even more than that, a loving friend.

But that show was hardly his only claim to fame.

Waggoner began his career in the 1960s and screen tested for the role of Batman in the classic 1960s TV series, ultimately losing out to Adam West, before beginning a seven year run on the comedy and variety series The Carol Burnett Show from 1967.

Many of Waggoner's roles centred on him being a good-looking guy, which he played up in humour on The Carol Burnett Show.

Waggoner's last TV appearance was in 2017 on "The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special", according to IMDB.

Then in 1975 was cast as Major Steve Trevor opposite Carter's Wonder Woman. In the '90s, he appeared on Ellen and That '70s Show.

In the late 1970s while Waggoner was still hard at work on sets, he launched Star Waggons out of Sylmar, California. "I can go anywhere in the USA, and sometimes the world, and people walking down the street will stop me and say, 'Hey, Lyle, how are you?' That, for me, is such a marvelous advantage and a situation that people in most other industries rarely find themselves in".

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon; his two sons, Jason and Beau; and his four beloved grandchildren.

"When I was on Wonder Woman, [the producers] gave me a very nice motor home they had rented from some private owner in the Valley", he said in an interview with Los Angeles magazine.
