Footage from state news agency Xinhua showed migrant workers in Huanggang - one of the cities worst-hit by the coronavirus outbreak - queuing for long-distance coaches with bags and suitcases.

China is re-opening some train stations and bus service as it lifts a lockdown in Hubei province to stem the spread of a new coronavirus.

On the other hand, the number of imported cases in Beijing increased.

To prevent a surge in imported cases, China is ramping up quarantine and screening rules for all global arrivals.

Railway stations and airports began opening from Wednesday - with the exception of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei where the virus is believed to have emerged late a year ago at a food market selling wild animals. In Hubei and Wuhan alone as of Wednesday 3,169 people died since January.

Hubei province, with a population of around 60 million people, has not reported any new cases on Wednesday and re-open the doors of their borders.

Hubei health commission said on Thursday that 914 people were still in severe condition and another 287 in critical condition in hospitals.

All of the new patients were travelers who came to China from overseas.

But as nations globally struggle to contain the pandemic, surging numbers of imported cases in China are fuelling anxiety about a possible second wave of infections just as the country seems to be bringing its outbreak under control. People in Wuhan have been virtually locked down for more than two months.

Following a harrowing battle with the pathogen, the city of Wuhan - Hubei's provincial capital, where the majority of China's Covid-19 infections were observed - lifted its quarantine earlier this week, and also reported zero new cases on Tuesday.

Also, Wuhan will resume commercial flights from April 8, excluding global flights and flights to and from Beijing.

The government has downgraded the risk level of Wuhan for Covid-19 outbreak from high to medium, according to official media reports. According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, there are 471,518 confirmed cases across the world and 21,293 deaths recorded.
