  • South Korea reports fewest new coronavirus cases since Feb. 29 peak

SEOUL, March 25 ― South Korea said it would tighten border checks for travellers from the United States by Friday as concerns rise over imported coronavirus cases despite a decline in domestically transmitted infections.

After a big early outbreak, it won praise for slowing the spread of the disease with comparatively little disruption and just 125 deaths and has brought the number of new infections per day to below 100 for the past 13 straight days.

South Korea is pushing an aggressive test-and-quarantine program that some experts say possibly contributed to its lower death toll in comparison with mainland China and hard-hit European nations.

Of the new cases, 34 were from travellers, KCDC data showed.

Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province, which surrounds the capital city, saw their new daily infections rise by 28 to 804 on Wednesday.
