The automatic federal filing extension to July 15 applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations and other non-corporate tax filers, as well as those who pay self-employment tax. S-corps and partnerships, entities with filing deadlines that were set for March 16, aren't included in the deferment. The April 15 deadline has been pushed to July 15.
As relates to interest and penalties - the period beginning on April 15, 2020 and ending on July 15, 2020 will be disregarded in the calculation of any interest, penalty or addition to tax for failure to file the federal income tax returns or to pay the federal income taxes postponed by the Notice.
Individuals who need additional time to file after July 15 can request an extension by filing Form 4868 through a tax professional, tax software or using the Free File link on IRS.gov.
