The legend of former Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant remains strong, as the towel he wore in his final game in 2016 was sold at an auction for almost $33,000.

The winning bid of $33,077.16 saw the towel and ticket combination head to an unnamed buyer, with Jeff Woolf, president of Iconic Auctions, who held the event, explaining that the victor was a well known collector of Lakers memorabilia.

Bryant died in January at age 41 in a helicopter crash near Los Angeles that killed eight others, including his daughter Gianna.

His towel was grabbed by a fan and has since been sold and resold a number of times as fans have parted with their cash to own a piece of National Basketball Association history.

After his final game at Staples Center, Bryant addressed the packed crowd, ending his speech with his famous signoff, "Mamba Out", before heading off court to a standing ovation. The fan who originally acquired the towel sold it in a different auction in 2016 for $8,365.00.

Jeff Woolf, president of Iconic Auctions, told CNN that the buyer is known for having the largest collection of Lakers memorabilia worldwide.

Given the amount of money obtained for what would otherwise be considered an insignificant item, it's likely that any Bryant-related material that's auctioned off in the near future will garner a steep price. "His long-term plan is to create a museum in Southern California".

Woolf noted that the same bidder previously spent $30,000 on a yearbook from Bryant's middle school days.
