Earlier on Tuesday, Spanish authorities confirmed a jump of 849 in Covid-19 deaths - the largest number of fatalities the country has recorded in a 24-hour period since the pandemic began.

Globally, 937,170 cases of the novel coronavirus and 47,235 deaths have been reported so far, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Researchers are predicting the deaths could surpass 2,000 a day by mid-April, reports USA Today. The city alone represents almost one-third of all USA deaths, with at least 932. Johns Hopkins also estimates that at least 8,600 Americans have fully recovered from the disease, but that number is also likely much higher.

"This is going to be a very, very painful two weeks", President Donald Trump said Tuesday in a coronavirus task force press briefing from the White House, marking a notable change in tone in his view of the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping across the United States, inundating hospitals.
