"Although I'm feeling better and I've done my seven days of isolation, alas I still have one of the symptoms, a minor symptom, I still have a temperature", a weary-looking Johnson, sitting in a chair with his shirt open at the neck, said in a Twitter video message.
In a video message posted online on Wednesday night from Downing Street, where he has been in self-isolation since announcing on 27 March that he had contracted the virus, Johnson said testing was the "way through".
The prime minister tested positive for the virus last Friday and had been due to come out of self-isolation today. "As I have said for weeks and weeks this (testing) is the way through", Johnson said. "Please, please stick with the guidance now". "This country has made a huge effort, a huge sacrifice, done absolutely brilliantly well in delaying the spread of the virus, let's stick with it now".
"But we're working clearly the whole time on our programme to beat the virus".
While he admitted that there was a "massive amount of work to do", he called on the life sciences industry to "step up to the plate and do everything they possibly can" to deliver.
