"An emergency NZR grant of $250,000 each is to be made available to all Super Rugby clubs for the next three months which is seen as a critical supplement to other financing options or levers being considered by the club".

Earlier, it was confirmed that NZ Rugby staff will take a 20 per cent pay cut across the board, which a spokesperson said would have been worse were it not for the assistance of the New Zealand Government's wage subsidy scheme.

Robinson confirms all NZR staff, including its board and All Blacks management, are taking 40 per cent pay cuts across the board as coronavirus bites into its finances.

"It's an incredibly challenging time, we have fantastic rugby people all around the country at the moment dealing with hard financial circumstances", Robinson said.

The five-nation Super Rugby competition has been suspended, and July global matches are in doubt. The All Blacks are due to play in the annual Rugby Championship southern hemisphere national team competition, starting August.

"They're going through a process of gathering as much information as they can, once they digest that I'd imagine they'll come back to us with some ideas", he said.

In a release this afternoon, NZR confirmed that the five Kiwi Super Rugby sides (the Blues, Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders and Highlanders) will be given $250,000 each for the next three months.

Townsend's deferral, covering April 1 to September 1, will also apply to Edinburgh boss Richard Cockerill and Glasgow counterpart Dave Rennie, as well as Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) performance director Jim Mallinder.

SRU chief executive Mark Dodson, one of the highest paid administrators in the game, will have a salary deferral of 30% from 1 April to 1 September.

"However, given the challenging circumstances with Covid-19, beyond this time we will keep a watching brief as things develop", he said.

"We will leave no stone left unturned to ensure the long-term sustainability of Scottish Rugby".

And on Tuesday, Rugby Australia put 75% of its staff on unpaid leave, in what chief executive Raelene Castle called "the toughest decision in the game's history".
