Queen Elizabeth says nation will succeed in fight against novel coronavirus

The Queen said, 'While we have faced challenges before, this one is different.

"This time we join with all nations in a common endeavour".

She also thanked key workers, saying "every hour" of work "brings us closer to a return to more normal times".

"We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us", she said.

Queen Elizabeth made a rare address to the nation amidst the coronavirus pandemic that has been ravaging the entire world.

The queen gives yearly Christmas messages but has given an address like this on only three previous occasions. The Royal Family is arguably the first thing that comes to foreigner's minds when they think about the United Kingdom, and while the image of Queen Elizabeth II is around the hundreds of now-closed tourist shops in London, many people, in particular younger generations of liberal Britons, oppose the continuity of an institution some regard as useless.
