Democratic Governor Tom Evers order that the election be delayed was overturned by the state's Republican controlled Supreme Court. So voters who requested an absentee ballot but didn't receive one by election day were effectively disenfranchised. More than a dozen other states have postponed their elections in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has transformed Americans' daily lives and plunged the economy into an apparent recession.

The Milwaukee Election Commission is now demanding the USPS investigate why some ballots never showed up even though officials say they were put in the mail.

The Times also reports that only five out of 180 polling places across Milwaukee were open on Tuesday.

Many served alongside fellow civilians in communities throughout the state, with most of the National Guard members assisting counties they resided in accordance with state election laws.

The city of Milwaukee's top election official says hundreds of absentee ballots filed without a witness signature during the roughly 24 hours a federal judge said the requirement didn't apply won't count.

The election is taking place even though Wisconsin, like most U.S. states, has imposed a stay-at-home order on its residents.

Ellie Bradish, 40, and her husband Dan Bullock, 40, waited with masks on for about three hours to vote in Milwaukee after their absentee ballots never arrived. Republicans have clearly determined that they can not win elections fairly.

In that same election - and as a result of the state's gerrymandered Assembly map, 53 percent of Wisconsin voters supported Democratic candidates - and yet the party came away with only 36 percent of seats. He did not encourage his supporters to vote in person.

The unprecedented challenge created a chaotic scenes across the state - and a variety of health risks for voters and the elected officials who fought to keep polls open.

Videos on social media showed lines of people, majority six feet apart and wearing masks, lined up for up to two-and-a-half hours to cast ballots.

"Two very different cities, and I think it's rooted in the COVID-19 pandemic, and Milwaukee being in the epicenter of that pandemic", said Albrecht. In fact, Evers pushed to delay the election before Trump's endorsement and has been seeking other remedies - including sending mail-in ballots to all registered voters. "Mail ballots are a very risky thing for this country, because they're cheaters".

The state Supreme Court last night blocked Democratic Gov. The New York Times reported that 15 other states and US territories delayed their primaries until sometime in the summer due to the global pandemic that is killing scores of people every day.
