The party, happening amid statewide stay-at-home orders meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus, may have gone unnoticed until frantic witnesses called 911 shortly after midnight from an apartment complex in Bakersfield, Kern County Sheriff's Lt. Cesa Ollague said.

Six people were shot shortly after midnight Saturday at a party attended by dozens of people at a Bakersfield apartment complex, authorities said.

All six victims were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims, including one juvenile and five adults, suffered gunshot wounds but they were expected to survive, he said.

The suspects of the shooting were described as four black males driving a white sedan, the sheriff's office stated. "No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing", the news release said.

While the sheriff's office press release did not make mention of California Gov. Gavin Newsom's stay-at-home order, which was extended recently to May 15, the party was held despite the order.

California on March 19 instituted a social distancing order that prohibits any nonessential gatherings.

Some states have not issued formal stay-at-home orders. Anyone with information is asked to call KCSO at 661-861-3110.
