A WORLD War II veteran who is walking 100 lengths of his back garden before his 100th birthday has raised more than £2million for the NHS in just one week.

Tom, who began his walks last Monday, initially set a fundraising target of £1,000 for NHS Charities Together, expecting support only from his village of Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire.

Since his appeal went viral, Moore says he now plans to keep going and walk another 100 laps after he reaches his goal later this week.

After passing the £1m mark on Tuesday afternoon, Moore tweeted: "Since 8 am today we have raised 1 million pounds for the NHS".

"When you think of who it is all for, all those fearless and super doctors and nurses we have got, I think they deserve every penny and I hope we get some more for them too", he told BBC News.

"I thank the British public from the bottom of my heart".
