"Where we make mistakes, we will continue to correct them", he said. Those areas where the infection rates remain high will stay on level 4 until the infection rate eases, he said.
He said many thousands of South Africans would have died without Lockdown and the measures taken by the government.
He reiterated that should the lockdown be lifted without caution there is a risk of a "rapid and unmanageable surge in infections".
"President El-Sisi confirmed Egypt's keenness to enhance historic relations with South Africa at the continental and worldwide levels and to promote strategic dialogue between the two countries on issues of peace and security and economic development in the continent", the presidency statement read. "We will therefore continue to proceed cautiously", Ramaphosa said on Wednesday.
The country is now in Day 48 of its national lockdown which was instituted to curb the spread of the virus.
At the start of May, South Africa eased into level 4 of the national lockdown and allowed just over one million workers to return to work, after instituting the strict level 5lockdown for 35 days. "Without the lockdown, the number of coronavirus infections would have soared uncontrollably".
It's what most South Africans have been hoping for - moving from Level 4 to level 3 - but it's not happening yet. The government expects infections to peak in August or September.
The president last month announced a R500 billion ($27 billion) support package aimed at reigniting growth and supporting those worst affected by the lockdown.
"Essentially, he doubled down on what has been a tragically flawed approach that has wreaked catastrophic, unnecessary and possibly irreparable damage to our country", Steenhuisen said in a statement.
South Africa was already in recession before the coronavirus struck in March.

"By delaying the spread of the disease, we have strengthened the capacity of our health system", he added.
Ramaphosa thanked the US Government for the donation of 1,000 ventilators.
